To pass the Vin Verification All vehicles 1970 and newer model years Must have a US federal Certification Label that has the vin number on it and it agrees with the vin number on the vehicle. If for any reason the US federal certification label is missing, illegible, damaged, altered or disagrees with the vin number the verification will not process and it will be referred to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for inspection.
All Vin verifiers in California Are Prohibited to verify the following vehicles:
- Vehicles whose USFederal Certification Label (Safety Label) disagrees with the VIN, or isillegible, damaged, tampered, altered, missing, never issued (e.g., directimport-grey market, etc.), or does not match the documents
- Revivedsalvage or revived junk vehicles,
- Specially constructed (SPCNS)vehicles,
- used motorcycles with an unavailable California record (lastregistered in CA, but record no longer appears on DMV’s database),
- Vehicles with documents from a foreign country,
- Motorcycles with engine Changes.
If your vehicle is one on the lists above then please don’t waste your time and ours and head to the DMV. We will not Perform any Vin verifications if the following situation applies to your vehicles even if other agencies are doing it.
Vin verification and vin Verifier?
The purpose of the vin verification is only to confirm that the vehicle is
- Located in California
- Fully assembled and running
- The vin number matches the vin number on the paper work
- The year, make, model, body type model, gvwr, mileage matches the official paperwork
Who needs a vin verification
- Out of state vehicles: any vehicle that comes over from a different state MUST do a vin verification prior to completely registering the vehicle.
- Vehicle that has fallen off the DMV system. After certain years vehicles fall off the system if the registration are not paid consistently.
- Vehicle that has body changes.
- Vehicle that are becoming salvaged, junked or revived.
What should I bring to my Vin verification appointment;
- The vehicle
- Any documents you have such as title, registration although it is not required it is highly recommended.
The DMV, CHP or the Police don’t charge any fee for a vin verification
